Acupuncture can help you improve your chances of successful pregnancy.

A recent medical study found that women who augmented Western fertility treatments (IVF) with acupuncture and TCM, increased their chances of a successful pregnancy.

With such a great emotional and financial commitment, it makes sense to do as much as you can improve your chances of a successful and positive result.

When is the best time to book an appointment?

It is best to make an appointment as soon as you have decided to take this direction. An initial consultation will determine the appropriate treatment plan to suit your individual needs. Ideally, acupuncture should be started a few months prior to embryo collection and implantation, in order to increase the thickness and nourishment of the womb.

In the early stages of treatment, Traditional Chinese Medicine may be implemented along with acupuncture. The use of Chinese herbs can improve the quality of eggs, clean and nourish the blood and also improve blood flow to the uterus.  Herbs may also be used to help address any underlying imbalances.

However, once IVF medication commences, we recommend that the use of these herbs is discontinued.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend to start Acupuncture treatment a few months leading up to embryo collection and transfer as this will ensure that the uterus is toned and strengthened, prepairing it for the challenge ahead.

In the lead up to embryo collection and embryo transfer, fertility focused acupuncture works to improve egg maturation and quality while also improving the body's overall health for conception and pregnancy.  These treatments can also manage any side effects that may arise during the ivf process.

Acupuncture is then recommended prior to embryo collection and then immediately before and immediately after the embryo transfer.

Acupuncture before Embryo Collection

This treatment before embryo extraction is focused on maximising endometrial thickness, follicle growth and egg quality. Treatment before the embryo collection also helps to manage any abdominal pain or discomfort.

What are the benefits of Acupuncture before and after Embryo transfer?

Studies have found that Acupuncture performed close to the time of embryo transfer improved the chances of a successful implantation. The main focus of Acupuncture before embryo transfer is to calm the spirit and focus all the body's energy to the uterus.

Acupuncture before as well as after transfer increases blood flow to the uterus, reduces stress and anxiety and also decreases uterine contractions.  This creates an optimal environment for the embryo that is rich in blood supply to assist in a successful implantation.

Michael also recommends a treatment on the third day after embryo transfer. Day 3 is a crucial stage of the implantation and the day 3 treatment is aimed at increasing the flow of blood to the uterus and relaxes the mind and body.
